A 50-year-old woman is recovering in a St. George hospital after suffering a broken left when she fell during a Sunday hike in Snow Canyon State Park.

The woman and several friends were hiking a steep slope in the Tuacahn Pass area when she lost her footing, Washington County sheriff's Detective Nate Abbott said.

A medical helicopter located the woman from the air and guided the sheriff's office search and rescue to her location, Abbott said. Rescuers carried the woman out to a clearing, where the helicopter picked her up for transport to Dixie Regional Medical Center in St. George, he said.

The woman's injuries were not life threatening and she was expected to recover, Abbott said.

Authorities have not yet released the woman's name, but Abbott said she is not from the area, but had been visiting friends who live in southern Utah.
