GRADE: B

CD • When rock bands get lazy, they either make a country album or record a collection of covers.

The latter is the route Counting Crows (which will perform in Utah on Aug. 4) has taken with "Underwater Sunshine (Or What We Did On Our Summer Vacation," with Adam Durtiz and company providing their own renditions of their favorite records.

The effort shows that the band has great taste, and while none of the tunes are definitive versions, the band sounds like it is having blast running through songs from Gram Parsons, The Faces, Big Star and Bob Dylan. Best of all, the album sounds like a great, hook-heavy, rootsy Counting Crows album.
