Some of the region's best young big-mountain skiers will be showing off their skills at Snowbird this weekend.

The fifth and final stop of the Junior Freeskiing Tour (JFT) will land at Snowbird Ski and Summer Resort today, and Saturday, April 7, conditions permitting.

The event will "showcase the up-and-coming talent of Utah's big-mountain skiers," said Dave Fields, Snowbird's v.p. of resort operations. The skiers will be jumping cliffs and performing runs down challenging terrain.

Among the local youth expected to compete are twin siblings Hannah and Charlie May.

Many competitors in the JFT graduate to the Freeskiing World Tour — including such alums as Johnny Collinson, Silas Chickering-Ayers and Leo Ahrens.

Day one of the competition happens today on Snowbird's Silver Fox run. Finals are scheduled to start, weather permitting, Saturday at 10 a.m. on Mount Baldy.

Spectators must purchase a lift ticket to see the event.
