Glasses Malone at Kilby Court on Sunday

In 2009, Los Angeles-based rapper Glasses Malone was selected to perform at Clearfield High School after students won a radio-station contest. He never got the chance, after school officials looked at Malone's lyrics and deemed them objectionable. Guess who agrees with the principal? Glasses Malone. "My lyrics had really adult content," Malone said in an interview with The Tribune. "You should be 18." Well, he will perform Sunday at Kilby Court, an all-ages venue. After what he called an "eternity," his debut album "Beach Cruiser" was released in August, after having originally been slated for release in 2006. 2006! The wait was worth it, as guests include Snoop Dogg, T-Pain, Q-Tip, Akon and Rock Ross appear on the gang-banging album, written by Malone about his experiences growing up in Watts and Compton (both in Los Angeles County and being a Crip. Being raised in that environment "gave me a toughness and brought a hardness out of me that I'm able to channel," Malone said. Potluck, Sunset Jonz from Living Legends, Mistah Fab and J. Hornay are also on the bill.
