Peter Breinholt returns with two Christmas shows in one day

Mannheim Steamroller and Trans-Siberian Orchestra pull out all of the stops in their Christmas spectaculars, but Utah singer-songwriter Peter Breinholt always focuses on the songs and anima of the holidays with his spirited holiday shows. But not initially. "It took me about four years to figure out how to do a Christmas show," he said. "I learned what songs to avoid." While his solo, secular work can turn rootsy with bluegrass instruments, he now realizes that the "banjo is not a Christmas instrument," he said. Once a Kingsbury Hall staple, Breinholt prefers the more intimate surroundings of the Jeanné Wagner Theatre, and it shows.

When • Saturday, Dec. 22, 4 and 8 p.m.

Where • Jeanné Wagner Theatre, Rose Wagner Center for Performing Arts, 138 W. 300 South, Salt Lake City

Tickets • $15 at ArtTix
