GRADE: C

CD • You could complain that Tori Amos' "Gold Dust" isn't really a new album of new material, but simply a re-recording of some of Amos' songs with her at the piano, backed by a symphony orchestra. And you could carp that most of the skeletal arrangements and her vocal melodies don't differ much from the original tunes, with songs such as "Winter," "Jackie's Strength" and "Yes, Anastasia" sounding like mirrors of what has been previously released. You could grouse that even though this serves as a fine introduction to one of the consistently surprising artists of our times, in reality only her die-hard fans will want to buy this. Frankly, those are all valid complaints.
