The Sundance Institute's highest-ranking staff member in Utah — unless you count Robert Redford — is stepping down.
Jill Miller, managing director for the nonprofit arts organization Redford founded, is stepping down at the end of December, the Institute announced Tuesday. No reason was given for her departure.
Miller is the top official at Sundance's Park City offices and second in command behind Executive Director Keri Putnam, who is based in Sundance's Southern California office.
Putnam, in a statement, said Miller "has been truly instrumental to making Sundance Institute the strong, healthy and vibrant organization it is today."
As managing director, Miller has been responsible for running Sundance's day-to-day operations in Park City as well as developing the Institute's Utah-based community programming and securing state and local government funding. One of her achievements was working out a long-term deal with Park City's government to keep the Sundance Film Festival there.
Miller earned a bachelor's degree in political science and international relations at the University of Utah, and an MBA from The American University in Washington, D.C. She has worked at Sundance for more than 20 years.
Miller will continue to work with Sundance as a consultant on its Film Forward program, an international cultural-exchange program begun in 2011.
