Throughout the month of August, Tribune writers are tasting their way through some of Utah's finest frozen confections including ice cream, gelato, frozen yogurt and shave ice in an effort to beat the heat. Today's pick:

Fresh lime freeze • On a hot day, cool things down with this tart, but sweet citrus offering made with vanilla soft-serve ice cream, a homemade lime simple syrup, soda water and fresh lime juice.

Where to get it • Hi-Mountain Drug, 40 North Main St., Kamas; 435-783-4466. Open Monday-Wednesday, and Friday-Saturday, 8 a.m.-6 p.m.

Cost • $4.50

Shop talk • Hi-Mountain Drug, one of the country's last old-fashioned eat-in drug stores, dates back to 1920. The store makes the simple syrups used in freezes and shakes from scratch. Besides the fresh lime, other freeze favorites include almond-poppy, coconut and maple bacon. Other popular menu items are the Philly cheesesteak hamburger and fabulous French fries.
