Throughout the month of August, Tribune writers are tasting our way through some of Utah’s finest frozen confections including ice cream, gelato, frozen yogurt and shaved ice to help us beat the heat and satisfy a sugar rush. Today’s pick:
Tart frozen yogurt • This plain nonfat frozen treat has the sweetly sour taste of unadorned plain yogurt but with none of the sugary/artificial flavors added to other fro-yos. Tart yogurt is an acquired taste, but with fresh fruit toppings, these bowls are full of probiotic goodness and can actually make the claim that they are good for you — and your digestive system.
Where to get it • LunaBerry Frozen Yogurt, Crepes N Smoothies, 358 S. 700 East, Salt Lake City, 801-359-0427. Open Monday through Saturday, 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.; Sunday, noon to 10 p.m.
Price • Frozen yogurt, $3 to $8; toppings are an additional $1.25 for one, $1.55 for two and $1.95 for three.
Shop talk • This eatery’s other signature delights include a mango chicken crêpe, a strawberry-banana smoothie and, most notable, the Nutty Nutella Crêpe, a favorite snack overseas but frustratingly difficult to find in the states. The shop’s newest treat is fresh-squeezed fruit and vegetable juices, with no added water, sugar or sodium.
