Throughout the month of August, Tribune writers will taste our way through some of Utah's finest frozen confections including ice cream, gelato, frozen yogurt, shaved ice and any other nearly frozen confection. The effort is aimed to help us beat the heat and satisfy a sugar rush. Here's what we suggest for:
Pace Bars • Utahns of a certain age will remember Astro Bars, the frozen pops sold at the Pace's Dairy Ann drive-in in Bountiful. Now you can get the generously sized, made-in-Utah treats (rechristened Pace Bars) in many local stores. There are a dozen flavors, including tiger's blood, root beer and blue raspberry, but the peach bar is our top pick.
Where to get them • Pace's Dairy Ann, 1180 S. 500 West, Bountiful; or Associated Foods stores.
Prices • 36 cents at the Dairy Ann; bags of a dozen go for about $3 at the grocery store.
