Grade • B-

DVD • Some movies, and "Friends With Kids" is one of them, would be better if you could hang out with the supporting cast and completely ignore the central characters.

Here, the leads are Julie (Jennifer Westfeldt) and Jason (Adam Scott), who decide to have a child together and maintain their platonic relationship — because they've seen how their married friends' lives are falling apart.

It's those friends (played by Kristen Wiig, Jon Hamm, Maya Rudolph and Chris O'Dowd) who are worth watching, more natural and more approachable than the brittle, self-centered Julie and Jason. Westfeldt, who wrote and directed, lets her cast have free rein to create some warm laughs. —
