Movie review: ‘Turn Me On’ finds laughs in teen hormones

From the Norwegian coming-of-age comedy "Turn Me On, Dammit" comes news that will shock many state legislators: Teen girls get horny.

In this raw and frank comedy, 15-year-old Alma (Helene Bergsholm) dreams about Artur (Matias Myren), the cutest boy in her small town. But that crush has dire consequences after she tells her friends that Artur exposed himself to her — which he denies. Alas, Alma may not be the most reliable witness, as she’s prone to sexual daydreams that sometimes blur with real life.

Writer-director Jannicke Systad Jacobsen, adapting Olaug Nilssen’s novel, humorously hammers home some often-ignored truths about the effects of raging hormones on teen girls.

With a cast mainly of first-time movie actors, led by the endearing gamine Bergsholm (who turned 18 during filming), Jacobsen covers the familiar coming-of-age material from a fresh, engaging perspective.
