Food events: Preserving the harvest, farm dinners and hops on the hill

Take part in Can-it-Forward, a day to inspire and teach consumers how to preserve fresh foods. There are several ways to get involved locally and online.

When • Saturday, July 14, 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Where • Downtown Farmers Market at Pioneer Park, 300 W. 300 South, Salt Lake City.

Details • Stop by the information booth for a seasonal guide and learn good etiquette for buying produce in bulk.

Online • Ball company officials will lead a webcast of canning demonstrations and preserving techniques from 7 a.m. to noon. Viewers will be able to ask questions and post comments in real time. Farm dinner in Provo

Taylor Mason, chef and general manager at Pizzeria 712, will prepare a special dinner for guests at the La Nay Ferme Farm. Pizzeria 712, along with its sister restaurants Communal and Mountain West Burrito, use fresh produce grown on the Utah County farm.

Hops on the Hill

Sample barbecue and craft beer followed by a free concert every Tuesday during "Hops on The Hill" in Park City. A different beer from Utah breweries and a different band will be featured each week. The July 17 pairing is Wasatch Brewery and Motherlode Canyon Band.

When • Tuesdays from July 17 through Aug. 14; tastings start at 4:30 p.m.; concert at 6 p.m.

Cost • $30 in advance, $35 day of; ticket prices includes a souvenir sampling glass. Five-week pass available for $125.

Red, white and blue

Salt Lake Ctiy's ZY restaurant will pair different red and white wines with a variety of blue cheeses for these patriotic tasting events.

When • Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, July 18, 19 and 20, at 6 p.m.

Mojos in Park City

Mojo's restaurant recently opened at the base of Park City Mountain Resort. It serves sandwiches, hamburgers, ice cream and beer. Weekly specials will include items such as fish tacos, enchiladas and chipotle-barbecue ribs, said owner Rick Anderson, who also owns Park City's The Eating Establishment. In addition to the indoor seating, the restaurant has a large outdoor dining area at the base of the Alpine Slide with views of the mountains. It is open Sunday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.; and Friday and Saturday 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. For more information call 435-649-7289.
