Congratulations to Carmell Childs of Provo, who is the winner of Del Monte's inaugural "Crown the Cook" recipe contest

Her Mandarin Tin-Can Tower Cake, pictured here, "was not only beautiful and luscious, but ingenious, too," said Carolyn Jung, an award-winning food and wine writer, and one of the contest judges. For the recipe Child uses an empty can to cut her cake into circles which are are then stacked on top of one another.

Childs was one of three finalists who won a trip to San Francisco, CA to compete in a cook-off. All three recipes were judged on taste, originality, creativity, and appearance. "Growing up, my mom would often let me choose my own rewards, and my request was usually a trip to the grocery store for my own can of Del MonteĀ® Mandarin Oranges," said Carmell Childs. "Now that I've been able to use them in this recipe, it feels like I've really come full circle."
