Movie review: Polar bears are the stars of ‘To the Arctic’

The pictures tell the story in this IMAX-filmed documentary by "Everest" director Greg MacGillivray. ‘To the Arctic 3D’ focuses on the plight of animals above the Arctic Circle, whose precarious lives are endangered by the increasingly speedy melting of the polar ice caps.

MacGillivray follows experts who capture stunning footage of polar bears trying to survive on the diminishing ice, with an amazing sequence of a mama bear trying to protect her cubs from starvation and a pursuing male polar bear.

Using aerial and underwater cameras, the film illuminates a habitat on the brink. Driving home the message about global climate change are lucid computer graphics and an insistent narration by Meryl Streep.
