Health briefs: Love Your Body Week and the mechanics of running
Love your body
Healthy, organic food and mindful eating are the focus of Love Your Body Week, taking place Feb. 27-March 3 on the University of Utah campus and at various Salt Lake City businesses. Events are free to the public and are being sponsored by the student group SPEAK (Students Promoting Eating Disorder Awareness and Knowledge) and local clinicians who treat disordered eating. This year's theme is "Love Your Body, Love Your Land." Here's what's being offered:
Food for the senses: chocolate and olive oil tasting • Monday, Feb. 27, 6 p.m., Liberty Heights Fresh Market, 1290 S. 1100 East, Salt Lake City.

Keynote address • Wednesday, Feb. 29, noon, Union Building Saltair Room. Christy Greenleaf, from the University of Texas, who will be speaking on the stigma of size, fat discrimination and obesity issues.

Mechanics of running
Brigham Young University biomechanics professor Iain Hunter will discuss the mechanics of running, including his work and research with elite athletes from the USA Track and Field team.

Nutrition over 50
Learn how to adjust your eating habits as you age, during this three-session class sponsored by Lifelong Learning at the University of Utah. Instructor Kari Moe-Hoffman, a nutritionist and co-owner of Origin Nutrition, will discuss the role of nutrients in disease prevention and mental health and how to treat common age-related problems such as insomnia, fatigue, depression, diabetes, heart disease, and bone and joint issues. Supportive supplements will also be discussed.
