Willard • While it is has been a difficult year for peach production in northern Utah, some peaches should be available through parts of October from Utah's Fruit Way along U.S. 89 in Willard and Perry.
Derek Lemon of Grammy's Fruit Stand said a variety of factors — including an early cold snap last November that killed a number of trees and a wet spring — have allowed peach growers to produce only about a 10th of the fruit they normally have.
"We are going to have peaches for awhile, but not many of them," said Lemon. "And they could will be higher in price than in previous years."
He said many of his customers have been understanding as to the higher-than-normal prices.
Some producers, such as Pettingills along Fruit Way, will try to make up income in other ways. According to the farm's Facebook page, it will offer families horse-drawn wagon rides to a pumpkin patch on Oct. 15, 20 and 22.
And, for those looking to enjoy a fall drive, there is always the excuse to eat dinner or lunch at Maddox restaurant along Fruit Way and then pick up peaches, apples or pumpkins on the way home.
