Salt Lake City is in second place in the "Walmart Fight Hunger Together" contest on Facebook. If Utah's capital city can move ahead of Fresno, CA, which currently holds the top spot, before Friday, Dec. 31 at 5 p.m., Walmart will give the Utah Food Bank $1 million to help feed the hungry. As of Tuesday, more than 110,000 people have voted by clicking the "like" button for Salt Lake City. If you haven't "voted" there's still time. Go to http://www.facebook.com/walmart and click the "End Hunger" link in the bar across the top. Then be sure to "Like" Salt Lake City.

Where to eat out on New Year's Day

Several Salt Lake restaurant will be open on New Year's Day. Here are the details:

Café Trio Cottonwood • 6405 S. 3000 East; Salt Lake City; 801-944-8746. Regular menu plus holiday specials served from 4 to 10 p.m.

Café Trio Downtown • 680 S. 900 East; Salt Lake City; 801-533-8746. Regular menu plus holiday specials served from 4 to 10 p.m.

Caffé Niche • 779 E. 300 South, Salt Lake City; 801-433-3380. Holiday brunch served from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.. Regular menu till 9:30 p.m.

Flemings Prime Steakhouse • 20 S. 400 West, Salt Lake City: 801-355-3704. Regular menu plus specials including filet mignon and crab stuff shrimp, $79.95; north Atlantic lobster tail, $59.95; and New York strip with giant shrimp, $69.96.

Fresco Italian Cafe • 1513 S. 1500 East, Salt Lake City; 801-486-1300. Serving a limited menu along with chef specials from 5 to 9:30 p.m.

Gluten free dining

Two Utah food companies have recently added gluten-free products to their menu for those who suffer from Celiac's disease.

So Cupcake, a specialty bakery in Holladay, has a new line of gluten-free cupcakes. The line includes regular flavors such as red velvet, chocolate, carrot cake pumpkin and strawberry.

And The Park City Pizza Company is serving gluten-free pizza and pasta. Jeff and Nikki Keye recently bought the 25-year-old pizzeria. Jeff Keye was diagnosed with Celiac disease six years ago and has worked to develop a gluten-free recipes that taste as good as the original. He also is dedicated to preventing cross-contamination in the kitchen.
