Soon it will be Thanksgiving, which means turkey, stuffing, cranberry sauce and at least in Utah Jell-O salad. This jiggly food is such a holiday tradition, The Salt Lake Tribune likes to pay homage to it through our annual Jell-O Haiku Contest.
Readers of all ages are encouraged to write a silly, funny, even sarcastic haiku about their favorite Jell-O creation. There are categories for adults as well as secondary and elementary-age children. (Kids: Please ask Mom and Dad before you enter.)
Wondering how to write a haiku? It's a three-line poem that's short and easy to write. The first line has five syllables. The second line has seven syllables, and a third goes back to five syllables.
To enter, visit http://extras.sltrib.com/jellohaiku/ and write your poem in the form provided.
You'll need to include your first and last name, as well as your telephone number and an e-mail address, so we can contact you if you win. (Phone numbers and e-mails won't be published.)
Submit as many poems as you like. Our favorites will be published on Nov. 24; cookbooks and other food swag will be awarded for the three best submissions in each category. Deadline to enter is 5 p.m. on Nov. 17.
