Adventists meeting

Utah Seventh-day Adventists will gather Saturday, Sept. 18, starting at 9:30 a.m. at the Salt Palace for an statewide convocation. Guest speaker for the main service at 11 a.m. will be Pastor Jon Lomacang, of 3ABN, the denomination's TV station. The group also will meet for lunch at the Gallivan Center and then at Pioneer Park for a free concert in the afternoon.

Motorcycle ride

Calvary Chapel Salt Lake and Bikers for Christ in Salt Lake City are teaming up for the seventh annual Shoebox Rally on Saturday, Sept. 18, to support Samaritan's Purse's Operation Chr istmas Child. Each year, OCC delivers millions of gift-filled shoeboxes around the world to boys and girls suffering from war, natural disaster, poverty, illness or neglect. Registration is at 9 a.m. The rally starts at 10 a.m. from Honda Suzuki of Salt Lake, 2354 S. State St. Price is $25 per motorcycle with one or two riders. Peace gathering

A nonsectarian "World Peace Gardens Gathering" encouraging world and inner peace will take place Sunday, Sept. 19, starting at 11 a.m. at Green Valley Spa, 1871 W. Canyon View Drive, St. George. Provo sermon

Pastor Russ Robinson will preach about the Gospel of Mark on Sunday, Sept. 19, at 10:45 a.m. at Provo's First Baptist Church, 1144 W. Columbia Lane. Sunday School for all ages is at 9:30 a.m.

Orem sermon

The Rev. George Lower will give a sermon titled "The Universal Gospel" on Sunday, Sept. 19, at 10:30 a.m. at Orem Community Church, United Church of Christ, 130 N. 400 East.

Carmelite Fair

The annual Carmelite Fair is planned for Sunday, Sept. 19, at Carmel of the Immaculate Heart of Mary monastery in Holladay, 5714 S. Holladay Blvd. It will feature a 5K, food, games, entertainment and more. It also will honor the late Sister Mary Joseph, the 77-year-old nun and longtime fair organizer who died in July.

Park service

Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 1441 W. Tamarack Road, Taylorsville, will hold a Praise in the Park outdoor worship service at Murray Park, Pavilion No. 2, on Sunday, Sept. 19, at 11 a.m. A potluck picnic will follow.

Lutheran fest

St. Matthew's Lutheran Church will stage its annual festival — with food, games, crafts, Bingo, a silent auction and more — Sunday, Sept. 19, from 4 to 7 p.m. at 2654 Builders Drive, Taylorsville.

Post-polygamy support

The "Life After Polygamy" support and discussion group will meet Monday, Sept. 20, at 6:30 p.m. at the Murray Library, 166 E. 5300 South.

Sitar concert

Wind energy film

Utah Interfaith Power & Light will sponsor a free screening of "Wind Uprising" on Thursday, Sept. 23, at 7 p.m. in the Dean's Hall at St. Mark's Cathedral, 231 E. 100 South, Salt Lake City. Salsa in the Sukkah

"Salsa in the Sukkah" will take place Thursday, Sept. 23, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the I.J. and Jeanné Wagner Jewish Community Center, 2 N. Medical Drive, Salt Lake City (near University Hospital). The event, $5 for JCC members and $7.50 for nonmembers, will include decorating the Sukkah, blessings over the Sukkah, a salsa-making demonstration and sampling, sipping margaritas, and Salsa dance lessons. Uinta hike

Mount Tabor Luther Church, 175 S. 700 East, Salt Lake City, is sponsoring a hike in the Uinta Mountains on the Lofty Lake Trail. Participants will car-pool from the Jeremy Ranch park-and-ride lot Sept. 25 at 9:30 a.m.

Victory weekend

New Pilgrim Baptist Church will stage its annual Victory Weekend this month. On Sept. 25 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. the church will hold a three-on-three basketball tournament at the Sorenson Multi-Cultural Center, 855 W. California Ave. (1300 South), to raise funds for the church's new worship and ministry facility. Age groups are 8-11, 12-15 and 16 and above. Teams can register up to four people. Hindu expert

On of the world's leading authorities on Hinduism will give two free lectures next month on Salt Lake City campuses. Arvind Sharma will present Westminster's Tanner-McMurrin Lecture on the History and Philosophy of Religion on Oct. 6 at 7:30 p.m. The lecture, titled "The Scientific Study of Religion: Promise and Pitfalls," will be in the college's Bill and Vieve Gore School of Business Auditorium, 1840 S. 1300 East. On Oct. 7 at 3 p.m., Sharma will give a lecture titled "Democracy in India: Prospects and Retrospect" in the Tanner Room, Carolyn Tanner Irish Humanities Building, at the University of Utah.

Lotus fest

Urgyen Samten Ling Gonpa-Tibetan Buddhist Temple and Red Lotus School of Movement are hosting the 7th Annual Lotus Festival at 740 S. 300 West on Oct. 1 from 5 to 9 p.m. The free festival features a rare Buddhist relics exhibit, silent auction, boutique, taste of Asian food and tea, martial arts demonstrations, children's crafts, and more.

Church bazaar

Cottonwood Presbyterian Church, 1580 E. Vine St., will host a Philanthropic Educational Organization "We Reap What We Sow" Bazaar on Oct. 30 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Booths will include Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas decor, a silent auction, baked goods and candy, baby items and drawings. The P.E.O. Sisterhood is a philanthropic and educational organization designed to bring women increased opportunities. —
