Vietnam vet speech

Dave Roever, a Navy riverboat gunner with an elite unit in Vietnam who suffered severe combat injuries from a phosphorous grenade, will speak Sunday, Sept. 5, at 9 a.m. in the Christian Life Center Church, 2352 E. Highway 193, in Layton.

Peace gathering

A nonsectarian "World Peace Gardens Gathering" encouraging world and inner peace will take place Sunday, Sept. 5, starting at 11 a.m. at Green Valley Spa, 1871 W. Canyon View Drive, St. George. It will include a oneness circle For more information, go to www.worldpeacegardens.org.

Provo sermon

Pastor Russ Robinson will preach about the Gospel of Mark on Sunday, Sept. 5, at 10:45 a.m. at Provo's First Baptist Church, 1144 W. Columbia Lane. Sunday School for all ages is at 9:30 a.m.

'Refreshing' sermon

The Rev. Daniel Haas will preach Sunday, Sept. 5, at 10:30 a.m. on "Refresh the Saints" at Provo Community United Church of Christ, 175 N. University Ave.

Church relocates

Utah Valley's Rock Canyon Church is shifting its services from Thanksgiving Point in Lehi to a Provo Corporate Alliance location, 746 E. 1910 South, in Provo. A special service Sunday, Sept. 5, marking the move is planned, with communion service at 9:30 a.m. and a main service at 10 a.m. More information at rockcanyon.org.

Orem sermon

The Rev. Kevin Miller will give a sermon Sunday, Sept. 5, titled "What's It Worth?" at Orem Community Church, United Church of Christ, 130 N. 400 East. The service starts at 10:30 a.m.

Rumi lecture

The Rumi Poetry Club will present a free special lecture, "Rumi: The Secret," on Tuesday, Sept. 7, at 7 p.m. in the Anderson-Foothill Library, 1135 S. 2100 East, Salt Lake City.

Pagan pride

Pagan Pride Day is scheduled for Sept. 11 at Murray Park from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Holy Smoke BBQ

The ninth annual Holy Smoke Barbecue is planned for Sept. 11 from 3 to 6 p.m. outside the Congregational United Church of Christ, 3350 Harrison Blvd., Ogden. The fundraising event will feature the Stringtown Old-Time Bluegrass Band, cowboy poetry and games along with smoked ribs, Dutch-oven beans and desserts. The dinner is $10 for age 13 and up, $6 for ages 4 to 12 and free for those 3 and younger. For information and reservations, call the church at 801-392-5012.

Classes set

Fair for all

Mass at Draper's St. John the Baptist Catholic Parish on Sept. 12 at 11 a.m. will be followed at noon by food, games and fun at the Skaggs Catholic Center, 300 E. 11800 South.

Financial peace

Sonrise Baptist Church, 3550 S. 4400 West, West Valley City, will offer Financial Peace University, a 13-week video curriculum by financial expert Dave Ramsey, starting Sept. 13 at 7 p.m. This program teaches participants to achieve their financial goals by eliminating debt, saving for the future and giving as never before. Music showcase

Juan Diego Catholic High's Music Showcase — featuring the school's string orchestra along with its jazz, percussion and steel-drum bands — will be Sept. 15 at 7 p.m. at the Draper Amphitheater, 1020 E. Pioneer Road. If it rains, the free concert will be in the school's auditorium, 300 E. 11800 South, Draper.

Carmelite Fair

The annual Carmelite Fair is planned for Sept. 19 at Carmel of the Immaculate Heart of Mary monastery in Holladay, 5714 S. Holladay Blvd. It will feature a 5K, food, games, entertainment and more. It also will honor the late Sister Mary Joseph, the 77-year-old nun and longtime fair organizer who died in July.

Park service

Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 1441 W. Tamarack Road, Taylorsville, will hold a Praise in the Park outdoor worship service at Murray Park, Pavilion No. 2, on Sept. 19 at 11 a.m. A potluck picnic will follow.

Sitar concert

A sitar concert by Nishat Khan of Imdad Khan Gharana is planned Sept. 21 at 7:30 p.m. in the de Jong Concert Hall at Brigham Young University's Harris Fine Arts Center, Provo. Cost is $6 to $10. For more information, go to byuarts.com.
