Point guard Diante Garrett has signed a contract with the Utah Jazz and will be available to play in Wednesday night’s game against New Orleans, the team announced.
Tipoff for the Jazz-Pelicans game is 7 p.m. It will be carried on Root Sports.
The Jazz waived veteran point guard Jamaal Tinsley after Monday night’s 100-81 loss to Denver, which created the roster spot taken by Garrett.
Garrett, a 6-foot-4 point guard, briefly played in the NBA with the Phoenix Suns last season. He was cut in the preseason by Oklahoma City and was attending the training camp of the D-League’s Iowa Energy when he was called to Utah.
The Jazz hope Garrett will give their point guard position a little more size, athleticism and ability to keep opponents from driving and breaking down their defense.
In the loss to Denver, point guards Ty Lawson and Andre Miller combined for 32 points, including 15 in the fourth quarter, when the Nuggets finished on a 28-8 run.
