Al Jefferson scored 24 points and Gordon Hayward added 17 after returning from a 10-game absence because of injury to lead the Jazz to a 115-101 victory over Golden State on Tuesday night at EnergySolutions Arena.
Stephen Curry scored 29 for the Warriors.
The victory was Utah’s third straight and improved their record to 31-24. Golden State lost its sixth straight game and slipped to 30-23. The teams are tied for sixth place in the Western Conference.
In the first quarter, the Jazz built a 12-9 lead before Jefferson scored, triggering a 7-0 run that also included a basket by Paul Millsap and two free throws by Marvin Williams.
Utah still owned a 25-15 lead before Jarrett Jack came off the bench and scored four points in the final 35 seconds.
The Jazz took a 26-19 lead into the second quarter, which Hayward opened with a drive-and-dunk.
Hayward’s three-pointer with 9:50 left in the half made it 33-24. Utah eventually built a 42-30, but Curry exploded to keep the Warriors in the game.
In the third quarter, Jefferson scored nine points during a 15-4 run that gave Utah an 81-69 lead with 3:35 remaining. Again, however, Golden State stayed in the game behind the scoring of Jarrett Jack and Curry.
The Jazz took an 87-79 lead into the fourth quarter, which they mostly controlled but did not dominate until the final four minutes.
