With 3.7 seconds left in Utah's 99-91 preseason victory over the Los Angeles Clippers on Saturday night, the Jazz's Darnell Jackson thought the game was over.

The Clippers' Marqus Blakely had other ideas.

Jackson was holding the ball, content to let the clock run out. But Blakely kept swiping at it before Jackson finally pushed him and knocked him down.

Jackson was ejected.

Blakely "... just kept reaching for the ball," he said. "He's scratching at me. I was like, 'The game is over. The game is over. Chill, chill.' And [Ronny] Turiaf is telling him, too: 'The game is over.'

"But he just kept hitting it and, when he finally hit it and tried to go get it, he ran into my arm. It wasn't intentional. I didn't try to grab and choke him. He tried to run under my arm, and he got caught."

Jackson shook his head and added, "I just know, as long as I've been playing in the league, the game is over. There are three seconds left. Let it go. The game is over. That's all I'm saying. The game is over."

Carroll aiming for more minutes

DeMarre Carroll finished with eight points, three rebounds and three assists as he continues pursuit of a place in coach Tyrone Corbin's regular-season rotation.

"I just go out there and do what the team needs me to do," Carroll said. "Last year, Utah gave me a chance and I took advantage of my opportunity. This year, coach has me in the rotation and I want to keep giving him faith that he can put me in the game — at any time of the game."

An improved jump shot is helping Carroll's bid for an increased role.

"Everybody knows I am a hustler, I am a defender," he said. "I wanted to add the element of my game of being able to shoot the ball and put the ball on the floor and create for others. ... I really worked on it."

Rebounds boost Jazz

The Jazz outrebounded the Clippers, 50-35. They grabbed 18 offensive rebounds, including nine in the second quarter and 13 in the first half.

Utah built a 54-46 halftime lead.

"Tremendous effort," Corbin said. "When you are missing shots — and in the first half we shot 40-something percent — we were able to have the lead because we got so many second chance points."
