Matt Harpring's summer ritual continues.
The Jazz broadcaster and former Utah forward is scheduled to hold two youth basketball camps at the Park Center in Murray. The first runs Monday through Thursday, with a second set Aug. 6-9. Each camp runs four-hour, twice-a-day sessions.
Harpring takes pride in making his camp unique. It's not overpriced. It's not overcrowded. And the emphasis upon skills, teamwork and chemistry is a throwback to his playing days.
"I get out there and I like to demonstrate how to box out, how to slide defensively, how to contest a shot there's all kind of fundamentals we go over," said Harpring, who's been conducting basketball camps in the Salt Lake City region for more than a decade.
Children ages 7-15 can sign up at mattharpring.com. The cost for a single camper session is $165.
"I like to get out and show kids how to do [the skills] live. … I'll show them how to do a one-on-one move, then we break down individually and do the stations," Harpring said. "Then we have some fun contest games, then we do five-on-five."
