Jazz assistant Jeff Hornacek is staying in Utah.

Hornacek interviewed last week for the head coaching job with Orlando. But Magic officials have told him that he won't be replacing Stan Van Gundy, who was fired in May.

"It was good to go through the process and talk to them," Hornacek said Monday. "... I guess I wasn't what they were looking for."

Orlando's decision means Hornacek will return for his third season as a member of Jazz head coach Tyrone Corbin's staff.

"We always believe what's meant to be is meant to be," Hornacek said. "I guess this wasn't meant to be."

Over the weekend, Indiana assistant Brian Shaw and Golden State assistant Michael Malone withdrew from consideration for the Orlando job, presumably because the Magic told them they weren't going to get it.

The remaining candidates in Orlando include San Antonio assistant and former Jazz point guard Jacque Vaughn, Phoenix player development coach Lindsey Hunter and Philadelphia associate head coach Michael Curry.

Various media have reported that Vaughn is the front-runner.
