Excerpts from interviews with Jazz players Tuesday about Dallas guard Delonte West's wet willy on Utah forward Gordon Hayward during the Jazz's 123-121 triple-overtime victory Monday.Gordon Hayward on what would've happened if his sister gave him a wet willy: I probably would have tackled her. … But not in that situation. Not in a game situation where you're out on the court and I could get possibly suspended. Letting West's move go: Yeah, someone said something to me about it. What am I going to do? Fight him and we both get kicked out and I could be done for the season?
Lead-up to the willy: He bumped me and it's, 'OK, he's obviously frustrated.' Then when he did the second one, it's like, 'Man, we've got him right where we want him.' ... We got the last laugh with the win.Reaction of family/friends: My aunts and my mom and mothers of friends I have, they were all upset about it. Like being mothers. My friends were all just laughing about it.Not smacking West after the willy: Just have to keep your composure more than getting into a fight or anything like that. The most important thing is getting the win.Josh Howard on the weirdness of the willy: Yeah, it is pretty weird, especially to let somebody get up under your skin that much that you revert back to a childhood game. Kudos to Gordon for getting up under his skin; it actually helped us out in the long run. He went out of the game. He pretty much didn't have the normal type game he'd had. From what we'd known, he was having a pretty good five-game stretch right there. For Gordon to get in his head like that is pretty good.Ever get a wet willy on the court: Naw, I was just one of those aggressive guys. If I felt like you was messing with me I would go return the favor. But other than that, naw, nothing childhood-ish like that. That was pretty weird.Enes Kanter on West's move: I was like I didn't know what was going on. The crowd was just going crazy. It was weird. It was real weird. I was like, what is going on? What does it mean?
Raja Bell on West vs. Hayward: It's a testament to [Hayward]. He plays hard, he plays tough and he plays physical. Like I've always said, a lot of guys in this league don't like that. You can get into people's heads real quick when you do that.When he's able to keep his cool while others around him are losing their stuff because of the physicality of the game, that's an advantage for him.Opponents picking on Hayward: He gets picked on. But I think Gordon knows what he's doing. I think there is some Reggie Miller to that. He grew up in Indiana. You are the instigator sometimes; sometimes you're not. But when do just enough to get under somebody's skin and you play woe-is-me when they lose their cool, you've won. If you can do that, that's a crafty game you're playing there.I don't know if there is a protocol. I think you always have your teammate's back. I'll put it like that.Alec Burks on incident: There's no call for that. I mean, we're all grown men. You can't challenge somebody's manhood out there like that. I didn't likethat at all.Seen it before: In pick-up ball, it happens a lot. But we're out here playing a game and we get paid for it. There ain't no need for that.Devin Harris on the willy: I don't know. I didn't see it. I just heard about it.Has anyone pulled one on him during a basketball game: Naw. I don't think it came down to wet willies.DeMarre Carroll on West's move: Naw, I never seen it. I didn't see it during the game, either. Did he lick his hand and put it in his ear? … That's wild. I got to go back and look at the replay. That's something you do in high school. Delonte, though — Delonte's Delonte. Does his own thing. You don't know what's going on in his head. It's just one of them things I just shrug my shoulders to.Blake Ahearn on West and Hayward: I did not [see it]. I just heard about what happened. I was surprised just like anybody. I don't think anybody really knew. About half the guys knew what happened, some people didn't. The game's going on. You don't really expect that to happen. It's just one of those things, emotion just gets the best of you sometimes. Maybe it's a different strategy he likes to use, I don't know.
Tyrone Corbin on West trying to get into Hayward's head: Different guys have different methods.Has NBA called: No, I haven't heard anything about it. Maybe they called Kevin [O'Connor].His reaction to incident: They called a tech on it and we moved forward. I told our guys we just have to make sure we stand up for ourselves and for your teammates. ... We don't want to hurt anybody or play outside the rules but you have to make sure you stay aggressive.Hayward's reaction: I thought he did well. He's a young guy trying to figure it out. A lot of things happen and he's learning on the fly. ... I thought he did a great job of staying in the game and just playing. After that, he didn't back down any. He continued to play hard.Jeremy Evans on West's move: I really didn't see it. ... I thought it was childish. But, as far as Gordon, I thought he was really strong — keeping his composure.
