Newcomers Jamaal Tinsley and Josh Howard scored 10 of Utah's final 12 points and the Jazz held off a Portland rally to post a 92-89 preseason victory over the Trail Blazers on Wednesday night at EnergySolutions Arena.

The Trail Blazers led almost all the way in a sloppy, foul-filled first quarter. It was 10-3 four minutes into the game and 28-19 before the Jazz received a late lift from Memo Okur and C.J. Miles. They got the Jazz without four, 30-26.

In the second quarter, the Jazz settled into more of a rhythm as Portland coach Nate McMillan went to his bench. Miles and Okur played well during an early 12-3 run and, in the final minutes, Miles hit a pair of late 3-pointers.

In the third quarter, McMillan went back to his starters and Portland quickly narrowed the Jazz's lead to 63-62. But Derrick Favors and Al Jefferson dominated inside during the final minutes as Utah inched away, 73-67.

The Jazz opened the fourth quarter with five straight points. It was 80-70 when Jeremy Evans' monster dunk over Gerald Wallace was wiped out by an offensive foul. The Blazers seized the momentum but Tinsley and Howard kept Utah in front and Miles' two free throws with two seconds left iced the victory.
