Jazz forward Derrick Favors was named Wednesday to the 2010-11 NBA All-Rookie second team, receiving 18 points and one first-team recommendation. Utah forward Gordon Hayward received seven points but was not selected to either team. Voting was conducted by all 30 league coaches.
Favors, 19, averaged 6.8 points, 5.3 rebounds and 0.9 blocks while shooting 51.7 percent from the field in 78 games (27 starts) this season with the Jazz and New Jersey.
The third overall selection in the 2010 NBA Draft out of Georgia Tech was shadowed by trade rumors during his time with the Nets. But Favors finished the season strong with Utah, averaging 9.6 points, 6.7 rebounds and 1.6 blocks in 24.4 minutes during seven games in April.
Favors is just the eighth Jazz player in franchise history to earn NBA All-Rookie team honors. He joins former first-teamers Darrell Griffith (1980-81), Thurl Bailey (1983-84), Karl Malone (1985-86), Andrei Kirilenko (2001-02) and Deron Williams (2005-06), as well as second-teamers Blue Edwards (1989-90) and Paul Millsap (2006-07).
Hayward was the No. 9 pick in the 2010 draft. The 21-year-old from Butler averaged 5.4 points, 2 rebounds and 1.1 assists while shooting 48.5 percent from the floor and 47.3 percent behind the 3-point line during 72 games (17 starts).
While the Jazz fell apart during the final three months of the season, the rookie's confidence soared and his overall game significantly improved. Hayward averaged 17.8 points, 3 rebounds and 2.6 assists in his last five contests, shooting 62.7 percent from the field and 56.3 percent beyond the arc. He scored a season-high 34 points on 12-of-17 shooting and knocked down five of six 3s on April 13 during a home win against Denver that marked Utah's season finale.
The Clippers' Blake Griffin, Washington's John Wall, New York's Landry Fields, Sacramento's DeMarcus Cousins and San Antonio's Gary Neal earned first-team honors. Griffin was the lone unanimous selection.
Detroit's Greg Monroe, Minnesota's Wesley Johnson, the Los Angeles Clippers' Eric Bledsoe and Indiana's Paul George were named to the second team.
