A 35-year-old man was in fair condition Thursday after having to be extricated from his SUV following a collision with a garbage truck in West Jordan .

West Jordan police Lt. Julie Stringer said it appeared the garbage truck had turned left in front of the Jeep Liberty about 5 a.m. near 4000 West and 8500 South. The SUV, unable to stop in time, crashed into the truck and rolled, trapping the driver.

Rescue workers had to remove the roof of the Jeep. The Jeep's driver, complaining of neck and shoulder pain, was taken to Intermountain Medical Center. The driver of the truck was not injured.

No citations were immediately issued. The accident remained under investigation.
