Thieves ransacked a Millard County home last month after pulling off an intensive heist outside of Delta, police say.

The thieves smashed a garage window and then used a reciprocating saw to cut through the wall into the home, said Sheriff Robert Dekker.

"They didn't break the door in. They cut the wall out," he said.

The thieves took flat-screen televisions, jewelry and two gun safes containing about a dozen rifles from the home, Dekker said. They used an electric hoist that was in the garage to lift the safes into a truck.

Investigators estimated the losses in the "tens of thousands."

Then they ransacked the home, Dekker said.

"There was some graffiti on the walls," he said. "But every drawer in the home, every cupboard, every picture, every bit of furniture was tipped over, dumped out, smashed and broken. ...Usually, a burglary is just a get-in and get-out. These guys spent some time."

Investigators believe the heist happened betweenJan. 16 and 27. The house is a second home and was not occupied at that time, police said.

Anyone who saw suspicious traffic near 5500 North and Jones Road in west Millard County during that time is asked to call police at 435-743-5302.
