Stephanie Sloop — accused of killing her 4-year-old son, Ethan Stacy — agreed Monday to continue her preliminary hearing until later this year while attorneys contest the admissibility of certain evidence.

Her husband and co-defendant, Nathan Sloop, had a similar hearing on Friday.

A status hearing for the Layton couple is set for June 27 in 2nd District Court.

The Sloop are each charged with aggravated murder, which carries the potential for the death penalty, as well as child abuse and other felonies in connection with the May 2010 death of the boy.

Charging documents say the couple engaged in multiple acts of "severe abuse" between April 29 and May 8, which led to Ethan's death, including "beatings, burning, drugging, isolating, malnourishing, leaving the child alone and unattended while suffering, and refusing to seek vital, life-sustaining medical attention."
