A 60-year-old Vernal man has been charged with first-degree felony murder in the Jan. 20 stabbing death of his roommate.

Prosecutors filed the charge Thursday in 8th District Court against William Robert Feldmiller, who remained in the Uintah County jail Friday in lieu of $250,000 bail.

Feldmiller, who told police he killed Mark Lane "Joe" Bedell, 46, in self-defense, is scheduled to enter a formal plea Monday morning before Judge Clark McClellan.

Vernal police officers were dispatched to the home Feldmiller and Bedell shared near 100 East and 400 North after receiving a 911 call, later determined to have been made by Feldmiller.

Bedwell was rushed to Ashley Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

Feldmiller acknowledged he had been in a drunken fight with Bedell that ended with the victim being stabbed several times in the chest, police said.
