Vernal police have arrested and charged with murder the roommate of a man founded fatally stabbed late Thursday in his home.

Vernal Assistant Police Chief Keith Campbell identified the victim as Mark Lane "Joe" Bedwell, 46.

Campbell said officers were dispatched to the home near 100 East and 400 North about 7:30 p.m. Thursday after receiving a 911 call, later determined to have been made by the victim's roommate.

The roommate directed police and emergency medical personnel to where Bedwell lay, and after initial treatment he was rushed to Ashley Regional Medical Center. He was pronounced dead a short time later.

Police said that the roommate, identified as William Robert Feldmiller, 60, acknowledged he had been in a fight with Bedwell that ended with the victim being stabbed several times in the chest. The nature of the argument was undetermined, but alcohol was believed to have been involved in the incident, police said.

After questioning, Feldmiller was taken into custody.

He was booked into the Uintah County jail Friday on one count of first-degree felony murder. His bail was set at $25,000.
