Nearly a month after being shot multiple times outside Moab, state parks ranger Brody Young is improving in a Colorado hospital.

Young, 34, was listed in fair condition Monday afternoon at St. Mary's Hospital in Grand Junction, a hospital spokeswoman said.

Last week, Young's condition grew worse as he battled infection, officials said. But he has since improved.

An entry on a Facebook page providing details of Young's condition notes his progress.

"Brody is doing really good today," the Facebook post states. "He wants to talk so bad and can't at this point with the tubes. Hopefully by the end of the week he will be chatting up a storm."

Young was shot several times during a Nov. 19 traffic stop at the Poison Spider Mesa trailhead southwest of Moab. The suspected shooter, 40-year-old Lance Leeroy Arellano, was wounded in a shootout with Young and escaped into the desert, police have said. He has not been located despite a massive desert manhunt in the week following the shooting.

"We had some teams down in that area this weekend, but we didn't come up with anything at all," said Grand County Sheriff Jim Nyland. "I'm assuming he's down in there somewhere, but I'm not sure where."
