About 30,000 ballots — nearly 12 percent of the total votes cast — are yet to be counted in Salt Lake County, and the results from those votes won't be known for nearly two weeks.

Depending on how those ballots break down, they could conceivably change the outcome of a few races, although chances of that happening appear slim.

For example, in state House District 45, Rep. Laura Black, D-Sandy, appears to have lost by about 330 votes, and Democratic Salt Lake County Auditor Jeff Hatch was defeated by Greg Hawkins by 2,370 votes countywide.

Deputy Salt Lake County clerk Jason Yocom said the county still has about 22,000 absentee and mail-in ballots to count, and an additional 7,300 provisional ballots that were cast on Election Day.

More ballots may still be coming in. In order to be counted, the mail-in ballot had to be postmarked by Monday.

But results for those votes, by law, won't be released until the official statewide canvass on Nov. 16.
