Low-income Utahns can receive help with legal advice relating to bankruptcy, collections and immigration during the Utah State Bar's annual Pro Bono Celebration Week beginning Monday.
Lawyers will offer free clinics and services throughout the week.
"Pro Bono Celebration Week is as much about helping people as it is celebrating," Utah State Bar President Robert Jeffs said in a news release.
New this year will be an inauguration event for the opening of the Debtors' Counseling Clinic, which helps answer questions about dealing with bankruptcy and collections.
The clinic will meet from 6 to 8 p.m. every fourth Thursday of the month beginning this week at the Salt Lake City Public Library, 210 E. 400 South. During the week there will also be statewide free legal clinics, basics on bankruptcy and other legal service events available to the public.
Pro Bono Celebration Week will kick off at 12:15 p.m. Monday in the Sutherland Moot Courtroom at the University of Utah's S.J. Quinney College of Law, 332 S. 1400 East. The event will feature remarks from Lt. Gov. Greg Bell and a keynote speech by Hiram Chodosh, dean of the U. law school.
A free screening of the feature film "Chasing Freedom" will be shown from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Tower Theater. The film will be followed by a panel discussion on immigration and will include information on available pro bono legal services.
