Two new judges have been nominated to Utah's 3rd District Court.

Gov. Gary Herbert named Charlene Barlow and Andrew H. Stone to the court Monday, which handles cases in Salt Lake, Summit and Tooele counties. Their appointments must be confirmed by the state Senate.

Barlow's appointment would fill the position of Judge Michele Christiansen, whom Herbert appointed to the Utah Court of Appeals. Barlow is the section chief of the Utah Attorney General's criminal division. She previously served as a prosecutor in the A.G.'s office and as city attorney for Provo and Orem. She holds a juris doctorate from Brigham Young University's J. Reuben Clark Law School.

"Her background investigating and prosecuting complex financial crimes will serve her well," Herbert said in a press statement.

Stone was selected to fill the seat of Judge Stephen L. Henriod, who will retire at the end of this year. Stone is an attorney with Jones, Waldo, Holbrook & McDonough. He previously worked as a trial attorney for the commercial litigation branch of the U.S. Department of Justice.

"For the past 20 years, Andy Stone has distinguished himself as a litigator defending businesses in antitrust, trade secret and intellectual property matters," Herbert said.
