Cedar City • Police here Wednesday identified the husband and wife killed in an assisted living center as Jack and Patricia Andrews.

In a news release, Cedar City police said Jack Andrews, 80, on Monday shot his wife and then himself. The shootings occurred at the Emerald Pointe Assisted Living and Memory Care Community at 995 S. Regency Road. Police did not disclose further details.

An obituary published Wednesday on the website of Southern Utah Mortuary said the couple met while attending Ogden High School and recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. Jack Andrews was a Marine Corp veteran of the Korean War and worked at AT&T for 27 years, the obituary said.

Patricia Andrews, 78, raised four children and was a mezzo soprano, a dancer, and pianist, the obituary said. The Andrews' family asked donations be made to the American Alzheimer's Association's Utah Chapter.

Jashua Edwards, executive director of Emerald Pointe, on Tuesday said he did not know how a gun was brought into the facility of 55 apartments. He said the business has a strict policy forbidding weapons.

"Even with pocket knives," said Edwards.

He said Monday's shooting happened in the couple's apartment around noon. After the shooting, a staff member entered the apartment and found the couple.
