A 15-year-old is under arrest, accused of stabbing and critically injuring an 18-year-old Tremonton man in a fight.

The conflict started about 4:15 p.m. as about five men walked to Ridley's Market at 74 S. 100 East, said Tremonton police Sgt. Todd Hunsaker.

They encountered another group of about five people at a home near the market and "words were exchanged," Hunsaker said.

Two of the men, Felix Maldonado Jr., 18, and a 20-year-old man, have an ongoing dispute, Hunsaker said. They started to fight. A 15-year-old male friend of the 20-year-old joined the fray with a folding switchblade knife, Hunsaker said.

He stabbed Maldonado several times in the chest and stomach, Hunsaker said. Maldonado was flown to a hospital in critical condition.

Police found the 15-year-old and the 20-year-old about 10 p.m. The teen, whose name is not being released, was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and the 20-year-old was arrested on suspicion of assault.

The two groups are members of rival gangs, but Hunsaker said the fight was more about a personal disagreement between Maldonado and the 20-year-old rather than their gang rivalry.
