Gov. Gary Herbert has nominated Kathleen McConkie Collinwood, an attorney in Davis County, to fill a vacancy on the state's Alcoholic Beverage Control Commission.

Collinwood will fill the spot previously held by Bobbie Coray, whose term expired in June . The position is one of two Democratic spots on the commission.

Collinwood practices domestic, personal-injury, workers'-compensation, employment-discrimination and criminal law in Bountiful. She earned a bachelor's degree from Brigham Young University and received a law degree from Hamline University in St Paul, Minn.

She ran unsuccessfully for Congress in Utah's 1st District in 2000 and has been a candidate for the state Senate and the Davis County Commission. She is the niece of late LDS apostle Bruce R. McConkie.

If she is confirmed by the state Senate, Collinwood would join the five-member commission that sets liquor policy for the state, issues licenses and permits and votes to suspend or revoke licenses if laws are broken.

"Kathleen has a history of public service and involvement in her community," the governor said in a statement. "I trust that her excellent judgment and dedication to the state of Utah will serve the commission well."
