A 10-year-old boy was bitten by a dog while he walked back from a park Tuesday afternoon.

The boy had a large tear and serious puncture wounds to his calves after the German shepherd attacked him about 3 p.m. near 8200 South and Kirkwood Place (1105 East), said Sandy Fire Battalion Chief Chris Dawson.

He was taken to Alta View Hospital, Dawson said.

The dog was not his animal, but he knew the dog, Dawson said, adding that the boy said he was trying to run away from the dog.
