An argument outside a Provo restaurant ended with a woman shot in the leg after her friend stepped into the fight, police said.

The woman was arguing with a man outside Sweet's Restaurant, at 711 W. Columbia Lane, when the 21-year-old friend approached them at about 3 a.m., Provo police said. The friend pulled out a gun and hit the man in the face with the barrel. The man tried to take it from him and the gun discharged. The woman was hit in the thigh.

The friend left the restaurant before police arrived, but he later agreed to turn himself in. He was arrested on suspicion of aggravated assault with a firearm and possession of a firearm by a restricted person. The woman was treated at a local hospital and released.
