• There will be four major marathons per year, each running 12-24 hours. First up is a 24-episode "Treehouse of Horrors" marathon on Oct. 26.
(FXX is Channels 401 and 732 on Comcast; Channel 259 on DirecTV; and Channel 240 on Dish.)
The FXX part of this is great, but there's more. The best part is The World Great App — "Simpsons World," which will launch in October. The show's executive producer, Al Jean — who has been with "The Simpsons" since it launched in 1989, said the app "completely blew me away."
It will be not just a library of every "Simpsons" episode ever, but it will allow users to research every aspect of the show, find a scene or a quote, mark it and share it on social media.
The show has " tracked American history," said FX Networks president John Landgraf. "So I think one of the things that amazing about it is anything that's happening in the world on any given day, you can find a funny quote that's related to it."
It will give you "access to the whole world and learn things you didn't know about the show," Jean said. "I don't want to over-promise, but I think that this website will provide you with affordable health care."
After seeing a demonstration of "Simpsons World" a few weeks ago, it made me wonder if the Obamacare website wouldn't have launched glitch-free if it had been developed by the folks behind this app.
The amount of information on the app is incredible. It will be Simpsons-nirvana, available on iPhone, iPad, Android phones and tablets, Apple TV, Samsung, XBox1 and XBox360.
You will have to subscribe to a cable package that includes FXX to have access to all of "Simpsons World." (Comcast is among those that have signed on.) Clips will be available without cable authentication; full episodes will be available with it.
The one thing that may be missing from the app are the shorts that aired on "The Tracey Ullman Show" from 1987-89. But they're working on that.
"I mean, basically, with this, I think there's no reason to ever do anything else but do this app 24 hours a day," Jean said.
