20 Utah restaurants earn wine awards

Wine Spectator magazine released its 2014 Restaurant Wine List Awards on Tuesday, and 20 Utah restaurants are among the honorees.

The Aerie at Snowbird Ski Resort; Tuscany in Holladay; Bangkok Thai, Park City; Glitretind at Stein Eriksen Lodge, Park City; and J&G Grill at St. Regis Deer Valley earned the Best of Award of Excellence.

The midtier award is given to restaurants that offer 350 or more quality wine selections with significant vintage depth or superior breadth in one or more major wine regions.

Another 15 Utah restaurants earned the program’s Award of Excellence. The entry-level award recognizes restaurants that offer an interesting and diverse selection of wines that are well-presented and match the restaurant’s cuisine in price and style.

In this category, the Utah winners are Bistro 222, Salt Lake City; Blue Boar Inn, Midway; Cena Ristorante, Deer Valley; Edge Steakhouse, Park City; The Farm at Canyons Park City; Fleming’s Prime Steakhouse & Wine Bar, Salt Lake City; Fresco Italian Cafe, Salt Lake City; Goldener Hirsch, Park City; La Caille, Sandy; Log Haven, Salt Lake City; The Mariposa, Deer Valley; Painted Pony, St. George; Spotted Dog Cafe, Springdale; 350 Main New American Brasserie, Park City; and The Tree Room at Sundance.

In all, 3,748 restaurants — from all 50 states and more than 80 countries and territories — were recognized by the magazine.

"The commitment of this year’s winning restaurateurs to building high-quality wine programs has been extraordinary," said editor and publisher Marvin R. Shanken. "There has never been a more exciting time to be a wine lover."

A complete list of award winners will be published in the magazine’s August issue, available on newsstands July 22.
