Humane Society of Utah grand opening • Help the society celebrate the opening of its new "The Wait Is Over, Rover" Dog Adoption Center. Activities include tours of the completed shelter, food, pet vendors, face paintings, a bounce castle and more. Information, www.utahhumane.org/.

Celebrate Astronomy Day • Professional and amateur astronomers from across the country will gather to observe astronomy day at Clark Planetarium with free hands-on demonstrations and activities during the day and a star party that night. When: Noon-4 p.m. Saturday at the planetarium

Where: Clark Planetarium, 110 S. 400 West; and the Stansbury Park Observatory Complex, about 30 miles west of Salt Lake City

Adventure + Gear Expo • Outdoor gear vendors plus activities such as a bike demos, advanced and novice climbing, slackline demos, speakers and more. Olympic medalist Noelle Pikus-Pace will be signing autographs 5-7 p.m. Friday and 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday. Information, www.adventuregearexpo.com/.
