Winkie a Great Horned Owl and third-grader Dallas Mullett take a good look at each other on Wednesday at the Tracy Aviary in Liberty Park. Third graders from Hawthorne Elementary in Salt Lake City previewed the Halloween activities the Aviary will be offering this weekend. 22nd Annual Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive » Mail carriers will be collecting donations of nonperishable food for the Utah Food Bank and other food banks throughout the state. Donations will go to Utah Food Bank and its statewide network of 130 emergency food pantries and agencies. Most-needed food items include beef stew, chili, peanut butter, boxed meals, canned meats, and canned fruits and vegetables. Walk to End Lupus Now » Walk End to Lupus Now events are held in more than 60 cities across the country to raise money for lupus research and education programs. In the Salt Lake City area alone, more than 1,000 Utahns turn to the Lupus Foundation of America, Utah Chapter, for support and resources. When: Saturday: 9 a.m. registration opens, 11 a.m. walk begins

Where: Liberty Park, 600 E. 1000 South

Registration: Free, but you must raise a minimum of $50 ($50 for returning walkers) to get a T-shirt, gift bag and snacks.

18th Annual Susan G. Komen Utah Race for the Cure » This 5K raises funds toward ending breast cancer. Last year, the almost 12,000 participants helped raise more than $640,000. More information, komenutah.org.

When: 7 a.m. registration opens, 8:15 a.m. one-mile run/walk begins, 8:30 a.m. 5K run/walk begins

Where: Library Square, 450 S. 200 East

Registration: Online (closes at midnight Friday) $35 adults 18 and over, $20 youth; race-day $45 for all ages groups
