Spotlight Show » If you want a walking example of traditional New Orleans-style jazz, the Preservation Hall Jazz Band is just the ticket. The band was founded in 1963, part of the traditional-jazz revival spearheaded by historian Bill Russell. The band makes its home in New Orleans’ French Quarter, in the building from which the band gets its name. The eight members last year released their latest album, "That’s It!," which coincided with the band’s 50th anniversary. Monday’s performance at Capitol Theatre comes a day after another career milestone: the band’s first-ever performance at the Coachella music festival in California.

When » Monday, April 14, 7:30 p.m.

Where » Capitol Theatre, 50 W. 200 South, Salt Lake City

Il Divo

Spotlight Show » Il Divo has two things in common with the boy band One Direction: Both are made up of good-looking young men, and both were created out of whole cloth by Simon Cowell. The music impresario behind "American Idol" and "The X Factor" formed Il Divo in 2003, searching for four classical singers who could create a crossover sensation. The four — Swiss tenor Urs Buhler, Spanish baritone Carlos Marin, French pop artist Sebastien Izambard and American tenor David Miller — have sold more than 25 million albums and 2 million concert tickets. The latest album, "Il Divo: A Musical Affair" (which is also the name of the quartet’s current tour), features Broadway standards from "Cats," "The Lion King," "Les Misérables," "West Side Story" and other classics.
