Utah farmers earn national honors

Utah farmers Joel and Becca Ferry of Corinne were top 10 finishers in the Young Farmer & Rancher Achievement Award competition recently at the American Farm Bureau Federation’s national convention in San Antonio, Texas. The award recognizes young farmers and ranchers who have excelled in their operations and exhibited superior leadership abilities. Participants are evaluated on agricultural operation’s growth and financial progress, Farm Bureau leadership and leadership outside Farm Bureau.

Gibbons was one of 36 state winners from around the country in the competition, in which participants are evaluated on their ability to exchange ideas and information on a predetermined topic.

Help name new cupcake cookbook

Utah baker Janell Brown, author of "One Sweet Cupcake" cookbook, is letting fans help her name her second recipe book. Brown, the owner of One Sweet Slice bakeries in Sandy and South Jordan — and the winner of an episode of "Cupcake Wars" on The Food Network — is accepting title suggestions on her blog, JanellBrown.com, through Monday, Jan. 27, at 9 p.m. The winner will receive a free signed copy of the new book, with his or her name in the "acknowledgments," and a dozen gourmet cupcakes. A committee of One Sweet Slice employees and Cedar Fort Publishing executives will pick the winning name and announce it by Feb. 1. Brown’s new cookbook will include recipes that contain fruits, vegetables and other treats specific to each season.
