Two new juice bars open in Salt Lake City
For those trying to eat healthy in 2014, there are two new juice bars in Salt Lake City Vive Juicery and Pulp.
Vive Juicery • Patrons of the Saturday Winter Market at The Rio Grande Depot may already be familiar with this locally owned juice business. But owners Brittany and Bryce Thaxton recently started selling their fresh-pressed juices inside Salt Lake City Zest restaurant during the week. Vive Juicery also delivers to homes and businesses in Salt Lake County.
To make the juices, the Thaxtons put fresh greens, fruits and vegetables in a hydraulic press. This cold method of juicing minimizes oxidation and extracts more of the nutrients, they say. Vive Juicery also offers a series of juices for those who want to do one-day or several-day cleanses.
Where • Inside Zest, 275 W. 200 South, Salt Lake City; or Saturday Winter Market at The Rio Grande Depot
Hours • Tuesday through Saturday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., at Zest; the winter market is open every other Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The next market is Jan. 25.
Prices • $8 for half a liter (16.9 ounces), or $5 for 8.4 ounces. Cleanses start at $52. Return glass bottles for a $1 refund.
Pulp • This new smoothie spot, juice bar and cafe opened to the public on Jan. 1, inside The Gym at City Creek. Smoothies come in various flavors such as Drop da Beet (mango, strawberry, kale, apple and beet juice) and Jolly Green (kale, spinach, banana, apple, agave and coconut water). Patrons can boost their smoothies with a free supplement such as chia and flax seeds, whey, egg white and hemp protein.
Food options at the cafe include vegetarian and vegan soups and panini-style sandwiches. The cafe is owned and operated by Mary Runolfson, whose family owned La Caille, and Thomas Kreitlow and Josh Marans. All three are formerly of Rico Brand and Frida Bistro.
